To some people, 2022 came sooner than they expected because they still had goals and visions that were not yet checked on their list while for others, as far as a career was concerned they have done with 2022 long before it started because they already had a clear roadmap of all the things they hope to achieve and how to go about it. The sweet thing is that while you feel you have it all figured out, your plans might get disrupted with trends and changes in the digital technology space which will, in turn, affect all relevant industries and sectors this year.
It is no longer surprising how technology today is evolving at a rapid pace, enabling faster change and progress, causing an acceleration of the rate of change. However, it is not only technology trends and emerging technologies that are evolving, a lot more has changed over the last five years, and even many more things have changed in the last two years due to the outbreak of COVID-19 making IT professionals realised that their role will not stay the same in the current realities we now lived in.
Having said this, it is now more important than never to stay updated, learning and relearning as the trends change to maintain relevance in any of the sectors you function in as far as IT is concerned. At Africa Agility, we took out some time to analyse a couple of trends and reports about what the tech ecosystem will look like this 2022 and we came to the conclusion that the following skills will be more prominent and in-demand than ever before as a result of changes in how we now do a whole lot of things. And these skills are in no particular order:
- Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning
- Robotic Process Automation (RPA)
- Data Science
- Edge Computing
- Quantum Computing
- Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality
- Software And App Development
- Internet of Things (IoT)
- Cyber Security
There are specific high paying job roles that mastering any of these skills will earn you as an individual and without any assumption, we say for a fact that most of these job roles are on a rise without corresponding skills set to take on these jobs. So that the big question here is:
- Which of these skills do you currently have?
- Which of the skills above are you learning this 2022?
- Which of them will you improve yourself on to get better opportunities?
Answer these questions and make a plan for yourself on how to achieve whatever your answer is and don’t forget to share with your friends whom you feel might need to read this too and stay tuned for more resources from us to make your year a great one.
